HOW DID MAB’AJ GROTTO BECAME KNOWN TO THE PUBLIC

The person who created and designed this site, asked me to write a synopsis about how MAB’AJ Grotto became known to the public. The following words spilled spontaneously from my pen.

I was thirteen years old when I left the nearby TOURZAYA township accompanied by friends aiming to enter MAB’AJ Grotto. We lept in its inside on our bellies for a long distance then walked under the light of torches wet with kerosene and some candles. I quite remember that we crossed cold quagmires and ponds. Then we withdrew speedily afraid of the echo of our high voices and the consumption of our candles. It never came to my mind that on one day, after the elapse of almost half a century following that adventure, I will return to the land I cherished and enter the grotto once again exploring its perfidy and getting rid of hindrances despite of my body’s frailty, in order to introduce to my countrymen and to all humanity a marvel that joins itself to the world’s marvels and wonders. It is MAB’AJ Grotto, the masterpiece of the universe, in beloved Lebanon.

The grotto began to welcome visitors in 2007 following the habilitation of a path measuring 220 meters. Another path of 80 meters is scheduled to be habilitated. The grotto has an entrance that makes you feel that you are just about entering progressively to its secrets. It is characterized by stalagmites and stalactites, tens of statues and forms which the visitor reconstruct just from looking on them. It contains pathways that broaden and contract, and openings soaring to tens of meters. If you look on them from near you will see how the stalactites are formed from pure white sediments which are embraced by tens of thousands of suspended water drops. It is a grotto which was formed since 30 or 40 million years and is still in the formation process.

The visitor will be astonished when seeing in its center a pearly sparkle distributed over the faces of rocks

Multi-colored muds form the uniqueness of this grotto. They have been laid since millions of years and glitter with the black and red colored rocks. The air inside the grotto is refreshing and salutary.
